Surrender
Surrender: 40 Songs One Story is a memoir by Bono, written in 40 chapters, each based on a U2 song. Surrender tells of Bono’s childhood as Paul Hewson, the profound affect his mother’s early death had on him, being raised by his father, meeting Ali, his wife, the same week in high school that he met the other members of U2, the band’s humble beginnings in the Irish punk scene to their quick rise to global rock superstars, Bono’s decades of activism and much much more.
Throughout it all is Bono’s unwavering faith that carried him through difficult times in his life and continues to do so; something I knew little about before reading this book.
Honest, funny, insightful, introspective, and filled with original drawings by Bono as well, fans of U2 will love this book. If you know little about Bono and U2 this is a good place to start. A great read.
