Ready Player Two
Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline is the sequel to his book and movie Ready Player One in which Wade Watts, aka Parzival, and his friends, the high five, embark on an epic quest inside a virtual reality video game set in the not too distant future, when life in the real world has become overpopulated and miserable.
I loved the first book for all its 80’s references and the feelings of nostalgia it created; if you didn’t grow up in the 80’s it might be a little less fun for you. In Ready Player Two, Cline geeks out even more, however it doesn’t come close to capturing the magic and the spirit of his first book. For true fans of 80’s Pop-Culture and of Ready Player One it’s still a fun ride, otherwise give this one a miss. It’s a good dose escapism during Covid, looking forward to seeing the movie.
